Salope*
Ted’s one-stop-shop-concept for all of his occasions.
Salope was by far Ted’s favorite word. He used it as a compliment and as a critique. A double edged sword. His highest graces: a sexual goddess who exuded desire (for him) and his lowest denominator : a strong, opinionated, powerful woman to be squelched.
In bed, he usually accompanied the noun with an adjective of size : grosse ou petite, which indicated how pronounced he found her sexual appetite (for him). But in the street or behind his desk with the doors closed or in front of his TV set, he shouted the word with vengeance and venom, sputtering and spitting with a coarseness in his voice teetering between a deep, acknowledged hatred and a clear misunderstanding of his place as a world powerhouse.
When we made love for the first time in his bachelor pad on the wood floor between elegant pieces of furniture, he let the word slip. It was surprising and daring and dirty and I found it sexy, at first. But then I realized that Ted vocalized his fantasies all the time. He liked to set the pace and his climax counted most (for him).
But salope could also be a playful word, if effectively wielded, and even empowering, if recuperated by the oppressed party. So I began to employ it myself to signify female power. But the power the word referenced, was never real power in Ted’s world. It referred only to the cunning a woman possessed to get around the game rules men, and Ted in particular, had put into place to oppress us.
It’s interesting having one word in one’s vocabulary which signifies their greatest wish and their deepest fear. It shows just how weak Ted is because those two extremes remain outside of himself, unattainable to him alone, without the act of domination or submission.
Which makes Ted’s solo accomplishment name calling.
I often imagine him laughing with his now friends,
« Eva est la plus grosse salope de toutes*!! »
(Eva’s been the strongest cunt of them all!!)
An acclamation I will definitely own… because even though he hurt me physically and mentally, in the end he never succeed in crushing my spirit… in spite of trying with all his money and and power and might to destroy me.
